How large an organisation is U3A Hawkesbury?

The current membership is 300 plus.

Who can join?

While most members no longer work full time, or are retired or nearing retirement, there are no real restrictions on membership for others who are able to attend courses.

What does it cost to be a member?

The current annual membership fee is $40 single, $60 double.

What does my annual membership fee entitle me to?

This fee entitles you to apply to join whichever class/es are of interest to you, for your current year of membership (click onto the Membership link for more information),

How many courses are there to choose from?

Currently there are more than 50 courses on offer, covering a wide range of interests.

When are courses held?

All courses are held on weekdays, in the daytime.

How long are U3A courses?

All courses are run annually, from February to November.

How frequently are meetings held?

Most groups meet once every month, but a few are twice per month and some are held weekly..

How long are sessions in U3A courses?

There is no standard length, but most sessions run for about one and a half to two hours.

How do I know if courses are being held close to my home?

All venues are within the Hawkesbury City Council district, mostly in Richmond/Windsor.  When you receive the course information sheet at the beginning of each year, you will be able to choose those courses most convenient for you.

How sure am I of getting into the courses I apply for?

There should be no problem in enrolling for most courses, but some have restricted numbers.  Class enrollment forms will tell you if a class is full.  Waiting lists apply.

How many are in each group?

This depends on the course.  If it involves a leader talking TO a group (ie presenting material) it is unrestricted.  If it involves discussion and interaction, or materials such as paints, etc., the class may be limited to ten or less.

What are U3A class meetings like?

The common feature of U3A meetings is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, where all participants can enjoy learning together.

How qualified are the leaders of U3A Hawkesbury?

There are no formal qualifications necessary to be a group leader, just a special interest or knowledge that they are willing to share with others.

Are there any additional fees besides the membership fee?

Occasionally a course may require the purchase of materials (eg. Art) but most courses are free of charge.

How do I become a leader?

You may apply to the Committee to lead a course at any time and, assuming the course is considered suitable and worthwhile for members, it may be introduced.
